The download for the Mobileme control panel for windows is free. It's very basic but all people really need is to link with Outlook contacts and Exchange. Everything else can be done me.com.
Thanks. I was thinking of the equivalent phone/cloud service offered by Microsoft. Looks like it includes a Findmyphone feature and some basic storage and photo options and assumedly an email account.

this is my first post, but I've been reading you all for a while now. I'm waiting for the MBP merom like most of the people here, but do you think there a possibility to see new Displays as well at Photokina? Maybe built-in iSight?
No one knows for sure, but I doubt it. The displays just got a spec bump and price drop a month ago.

I think some of you read the story close enough to know that it isn't the battery that is produced in this factory in Japan, but an important component of the battery; a special flexible polymer film.
Secondly, the factory is intact, it is the port that brings in chemicals and ships out finished goods that is damaged.
It is a classical example of, "For the want of a nail, the shoe was lost...etc."
The quick solution might be to use a different port and ship to and from the new port by rail...or to ship in and out by air.
Finally, I suspect that the reason the iPod is listed as being affected and not iPhones and iPads is that whatever materials are available in short supply are being diverted to support iPhones and iPads at the expense of the iPods, which do not contribute as well to the projected bottom line.

I don't know how they do it at such a discount, but mine just arrived a day early in fine shape, so at least in my case they came through fine.

I feel like I'm just repeating myself. I've already addressed that capital gains is not necessarily income.
But, it can be income right? So, why does this *possible* income get such a different relationship? As citizenzen said, I'm willing to be convinced, I'm just not sure I buy that because capital gains can rise or fall based on vagaries such as inflation, that it remains fundamentally different than other forms of income.

+1. My IP is being logged right now most likely. No matter where you go, using any communication device, you can be tracked. If you're that paranoid, get off the grid. Every phone company tracks your location. This for iPhone users is just a log of it on your phone.
I do agree, however, that the consolidated.db file should at least be encrypted if it is to remain on the device. Now any good crook knows all they need is your iphone to find out when best to rob you.

I think T-Mobile might fit this bill, at least in the US. I remember seeing a story here earlier in the year where T-Mobile said its vision was aligned with Apple (but not necessarily a partnership; abc article here (http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/ZDM/story?id=2537247)).
Interesting reading that abc article and fits with my impression of T-Mobile in the UK too.

i don't like cloud based storage, am i the ony one thinking it is extremely energy wasting?
why would i, in Italy, need to stream data from a server based in sweden, just to play an mp3 song i already own (since then)?
wouldn't it lead to a massive data overload?

the news say intel has already made small shipment last month enough for product launches, .. in september.. apple will expect large shipment.
so this means launching at wwdc, available in september
Or perhaps it means enough chips to sell a few thousand (or hundred, I'm just going out on a limb here! :D ) initially, and then mass produce in Sept to keep up with the demand?
Either way, I want to see them available in August...I can't wait any more. I've waited a year and a half! Of course, I didn't need one up until August, anyway. :p

Listen my children. Take a Sony PSP. Chop off the two ends with the game controls, leaving just the screen. This is the form factor. Remove the Sony drive put in a hard disk and infrared port and touch sensitivity. Leave the WiFi, removable rechargable battery, USB 2, headphone.
This is pocketable. It runs OSX. It is 'the' video iPod. It is a smart remote. It is an Apple Remote Desktop device that can control ANY Mac over WiFi or the Internet from anywhere.
Now add quad GSM and you have the Apple iPhone. I'm tellin' ya. $500.
And, Apple becomes a cellular carrier using that huge enormous data center they just bought. The phone works on any carrier but with Apple yoiu get all you can eat high speed Internet, perfect iSync, music/video downloads/purchase, ARD and so on.

Though I will still wait until that time gets closer and the speculation changes/gets more accurate, I suppose there's no reason not to go ahead and ditch this P.O.S. Blackberry for an iPhone.

Here's my beef with cloud services, as concisely as I can make it:
Data storage is cheap.
Networking (away from home) is costly.
I absolutely DO NOT want to rely on my AT&T data plan to get at stuff. Wi-fi, okay, when I'm at home, but then I might as well keep things on hard drives on the local network, rather than have to reach across the whole damn Internet via my DSL drop.
But knowing Apple, they will do it anyway and wait for all their partners' tech to catch up with theirs. :rolleyes:

sure we do. Developer Tools for example. also there are more 64 bit 3rd party apps out there, that I dont feel like looking up right now.
however, your right, consumer apps are primarily 32 bit, and os x apps like ical, mail etc, wont go 64 bit until leopard.

I'm hoping they do the same with the MacBooks. Maybe a new lowend pro, or a high end nonpro with a built-in video card. That would justify a $1500 purchase over a $1000 one to me.

Within 12 months Apple will own the same market share as their computers, 9% ... and it'll have been the same story: rose to glory, abuse the customer and business partners, people get sick of the rulebook and leave for more open pastures.

I dumped iPhone at xmas, now I'll likely dump iPad 2 if this trend continues. If they really push the washington involvement to stop jailbreaking, I'll get rid of my 3 iMac\MB Air\MB Pro... I don't support companies who attack me. They're here because of me, not the opposite. If they don't get that, adios.

- Microsoft needs to pay cellphone manufactures to put their OS on it (Nokia)
- Google pulls an "Apple" to avoid nightmare fragmentation and over-customization of providers and their lack of support for new OS versions (as already admitted by google)
- Apple will still make tons of money
So apple is a sure winner, google still has a chance but needs to change things.
Also: I don't feel attacked by Apple ... I have more the feeling they still put good quality products out, invest in innovation that is copied by others and keep the carrier from putting crap on the device, which I see as a good thing.
