It seems to me that the media and those sending steve email don't understand what it means when they say "Apple is tracking me".

i'm digging this idea! i love macs, home cinema and home automation! the one thing is i feel that the screen should be at least macbook size, although the 8" from previous rumours may be a tad small, although i think i'm already sold...

Great...until you need to do a reinstall. While you could go 10.6 >10.7, going straight to 10.7 is so much better.

Does anyone know if you can now print highlighted text like you can in Windows? Since they're adding the age old full-screen window feature, I think this feature would also be a welcome addition.

Well said. I think Mac OS X Lion is a game changer. I am very impressed with it.

If anything Lion brings a different "feel" to the use of the mac, and as Apple has been showing almost continuously for 30+ years now, its the experience that get people hooked.

I feel like im taking crazy pills...I think theres some confusion as to my feelings on the topic. Apple SHOULD include a discrete GPU in all of it's PRO Macbook line. Period. If you want a more exotic upgrade, fine. But to give a high end, expensive notebook integrated graphics is pure rubbish! Now, does Apple make more money by their status quo? Absolutely. Is is the right thing for the consumer? NO.

interesting article. thanks. I kinda feel better now (just bought a macbook). From what i'm reading you won't be able to take full advantage of the processing power til santa rosa comes out (early 2007). And at that point it will use more power reducing the hight bat. life expectations. And the low voltage chips aren't due out til that time too. So after reading this, i say if you really want a good merom working computer, get one in jan. Or forget the wait and get one now. But sept doesn't look like a good time to buy then.
Yeah after reading that I realized it's better to buy the refurbished MacBook (for less) and then upgrade again in the near future (Sadly, I can't wait)

They really should offer some services that Mobileme provides are part of the regular mac os experience (more specifically syncing of calendars & email, for those that dont use imap)

MobileMe contains an imap account and other service like Gmail are imap.
If you need email on more than 1 device, pop is crap anyway.

even if it was not the custom UI there would still be blocking by AT&T claiming "testing" That and every phone has some underlining drivers and what not that is closed source that needs to be updated and what not.
And as I said before clearly it is not samsung's fault. Captivated is a GalaxyS phone.
Captivated is running android 2.1 while over in Europe it is getting the 2.3 updated. Tell me who is at fault there. Clearly not Samsung. Samsung has pointed the finger back at the carriers here multiple times.
Google release update. You have to give the manufactures at least 3 months to update their stuff then you get trapped in the carrier crap endlessly.
The manufactures are also finally starting to figure out that people do not want all that custom crap but at the same time you have to look at it from the manufactures point to view. The custom UI makes them seperate from everyone else. Other wise it would just different hardware and nothing else separting them. This way that all have their own custom UI. At least they are starting to figure out that all they need to control is the launcher and they can start backing out going as deep. This is good for us,.

Have you looked at the TouchWiz UI? It's almost identical to iOS - dock at the bottom, pages of icons in a grid and you even remove applications in the same way as you do on the iPhone. I've nothing at all against competition for iOS, but they shouldn't just rip the design off

But, at what point does an interface become too generic? For example, the concept of pages of icons in a grid isn't really new or innovative. The concept of swiping across screens is simple and intuitive and should be standardized
(e.g. copied) for that exact reason. Should other phone makers put the icons in a circle, "just because" they need to be different? Should they force you to do something differently just because the best and most intuitive way was "already taken"?
Everyone loves car analogies, so: what if Ford decided to sue other carmakers because they copied their steering wheel design? Would other companies have been forced to adopt other types of controls -- joysticks or dials or foot pedals, perhaps -- "just because"? And would that have been good for the auto industry?

Powerful system for sure but looking at this thing it seems the base unit is a workstation to me. The 7300 GPU is a $99 Gpu so I was surprised they went so low with the base graphics. Good thing you can build like you want it and they offer better GPu's but it wont be cheap. Cpu wise its kicks rear end just as its expansion now does and can hold 4 GPU's:eek: PowerMac is again a butt kicking machine. Twice as fast as old & slow quad G5 thats kind of funny. At least this gigantic tower can put things into all that space now:) There is a gigantic hole now for the user with a monitor. MacMini and ProMac......hmmmm when is the next show?
As a side note a AMD3500/6800GT combo will still hammer the base unit in Doom3:p

You can't even begin to compare this service to MobileMe's current offerings. This is just space. (And a music player.) MobileMe offers address book, calendar, photo browsing, and other features.
Those services are readily available for free elsewhere. I used to subscribe to MobileMe back when it was the only reliable way to get push email, calendar, and contacts on my iPhone. Since then Google services have been allowed to be compatible and work about as well. I let my MobileMe subscription lapse. Towards the end, the only thing I was using my MobileMe for was the iDisk.
Huh? :confused: I think redundancy is the only valid argument here. What do you mean by bandwidth? Transfer speeds uploading to the cloud are hideous compared to USB 2.0. Syncing tools are also readily available for any external drive. External drives barely use any power, 20W during access. Processing power? You're not compressing or analyzing data. Just transferring and storing it. :confused:
Those are the costs associated with the cloud. You have to send the data over the internet and you have to build servers to support the storage space. In return you get unlimited access anywhere. My dropbox folder syncs across 3 computers and is easily accessible by my iPhone, plus I have shared folders with other users that sync across all my computers plus all the computers of my friends. That is value-added over simply buying an external hard drive.

I purchased the TOMTOM app early on and paid $99 for it. One week later, I found it posted in the App Store for $49.99 and today, a couple of weeks after that, the price is $59.99. I have searched the App Store site, iTunes Store AND the Apple site and do not understand how to find a Customer Service Link to ask about a refund for the difference in price. Does anyone know how to reach Customer Service for the APP Store? Thanks in advance...
