Years ago, you had to pay for developer tools for any platform. Nobody jumped up and down complaining it should be free. So now the fee has moved from the tools to the developer program. $99 is the cost to develop apps for the iPhone. Deal with it.

Just for the sake of being consistent and keeping it simple for everyone. Could you guys keep posting your actions in the Round/Turn model that DP started with?
R1T1: Loras group explores the start room.

This made it really easy for everyone to keep up and will probably help those that are less frequent visitors to the thread. I'm sure it's better for our storytellers as well. Just a thought/request.

It would jive with the earlier rumor of a Fall release for iOS 5, and consequently, a Fall release for new iPhone hardware to match. And people, seriously, you can go without a contract for a few months. ;) It doesn't mean because your contract expires in June that you have to renew in June.
So what are thy going to announce?
Let me guess : iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion. Usually, we get a preview of iOS in april. If we don't this year, this pretty much confirms no iOS 5 in June and probably no hardware to match.

If they felt totally confident in their product then they would not feel any threat from others and need to try something like this on.

I would worry too much about the swivel joint and the connections and cables within breaking, however I do use a touchscreen display ToughBook at work
and I can certainly see where that option might be popular
IF the protective shield to the touch screen could be easily replaced.
They get scratched bad after using them for a while.

what makes you think that you can copy it to a USB drive or disc? I have disc for Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard. None of those disc can be copied, some of them can only be used on their original machine (or the exact model). the past 3 OSes can't be copied, and so far there's nothing to suggest we can just make backup copies of Lion.

And how do you operate it? A server can be accessed from a workstation but a Mac Pro IS a workstation, it's not a server. It's not a logical step. I have a professional photographer in the family, with a Mac Pro. He needs to load his RAWs onto his Mac for post processing. How to do this if that Mac is in another room, in a rack :confused: Very inconvenient if you ask me.

However, as a human being with a brain and a logical reasoning ability, I was inferring the available information and the latest Apple's moves, and that is my conclusion. Apple is not focused on that customer base which made it what it is today, and its main focus is AppStore, iTunes, and subscriptions... and the best way to achieve is by continuing the process started with iOS... aka... locking down every single device sold; whether that implies losing customers or not, but the profit will continue increasing, I have no doubt of that.

Which is ok, I'm not saying otherwise, but nowadays there aren't enough new features to show within the timeframe the market demands an update; and that's the reason for Apple to deliver Lion, because the market is asking for it, but they have nothing, and that's why they are marketing the iOS features into Mac OS X, and some other things (which are just make up of old things, good anyways).
Given that Apple sold over 4 million Macs last quarter, that must equate to around $7 billion in revenue. Macs still make up around a quarter of Apples revenue, so while iPhones might be where the most money is coming in, Apple can't ignore $7 billion per quarter...
That's why they are, little by little, switching into the iOS experience... I'm quite inclined towards Lion being the last OS X version where the user will still be able to install applications on its own. The next one... I'm afraid... will be fully AppStore oriented... and that's when we will see the first jailbroken computers in history :D

I downloaded and installed the Sophos AV - but both times I ran a full scan, it locked up my machine - MacBook Pro 13" 2010 model. Both times I found badly corrupted directories on my BootCamp partition (Windows XP SP3).
I have now uninstalled it and no more issues with my Windows partition.
It appears that, on my configuration anyway, that this does not cope with a Windows XP partition.
Hopefully no-one else has had any problems - I think it is great that Sophos has done this, but it appears it can't cope with a windows partition.

Can anyone tell what the holdups are on Mac Pros? Both the X1900 and bluetooth/airport seem to take it from 3-5 days up to 2-5 weeks.

This is obvious because iOS is from one company...selling iOS devices. Android is o. Every other device that really isn't any competition if u ask me...every HTC, motorola , are now stocking android that they just got lazy. "oh we just made a quad core with 7 cameras...let's add android...perfect..exactly like an evo"....boring...some say "oh iOS isn't exciting" in earlier posts are wrong...not that I'm a fanboy to iOS..I'm a fanboy to the best I see..and android for a fact isn't...every damn android device has nothing different then just cameras...evo..shift..thunderbolt...droid...it's just stupid...what happened to when cell phones competed for hardware and software?
